Changes in stable nitrogen isotopes of plants, bulk soil and soil dissolved N during ecosystem retrogression in boreal forest

چکیده
Stable nitrogen isotope ratios (δ15N) of plants and soil have been used to study changes in the N cycle during ecosystem succession retrogression. However, little is known about how δ15N mineral dissolved organic (DON) change retrogression, despite their potential inform on processes contributing loss. Here, we examined NH4+ DON together with dominant plant species bulk across a 5,000-year-old retrogressive chronosequence forested islands northern Sweden. The N, did not greatly suggesting that there are no major losses from system. was significantly correlated islands, indicating an important determinant N. higher than those probably because inclusion microbial fraction. Despite lack as retrogression proceeded, most increased. These results suggest relative importance three underlying mechanisms involved unclear, resources response retrogression: they increasing reliance DON, decreasing dependence transferred mycorrhizal fungi reduced surface layers proceeds.

متن کاملSoil Fauna Affects Dissolved Carbon and Nitrogen in Foliar Litter in Alpine Forest and Alpine Meadow
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) are generally considered important active biogeochemical pools of total carbon and nitrogen. Many studies have documented the contributions of soil fauna to litter decomposition, but the effects of the soil fauna on labile substances (i.e., DOC and TDN) in litter during early decomposition are not completely clear. Therefore, a f...
متن کاملEffects of local changes in active layer and soil climate on seasonal foliar nitrogen concentrations of three boreal forest shrubs
Caribou Poker Creeks Research Watershed is a boreal forest watershed in Interior Alaska that is susceptible to regional warming and permafrost thaw. We measured seasonal foliar N concentrations of the black spruce understory shrubs, Vaccinium uliginosum L., Vaccinium vitis-idaea L., and Ledum palustre L. on northand south-facing sides of the watershed. We predicted that the shrubs would respond...
